Adaptive change requires that we understand our environmental conditions, our current and future state, that we are “savvy” regarding emerging conditions and understand the implication of our actions.
We are currently faced with dual dilemmas:
- disorder and uncertainty in response to complex fluctuations in global markets and interdependencies, &
- a growing awareness that our earth is a delicately balanced system that is in jeopardy.
In this context, adaptive change requires a focus on:
- adapting to environments (rather than attempting to control);
- acclimatizing and accommodating change (rather than change management);
- dynamic goals and strategies adjusted in response to changes in the environment (rather than static plans).
